A natural-looking scalp micropigmentation design starts with understanding the appearance you want. A closely shaved hairline and the appearance of greater density in existing hair have different visual goals. Choosing a pigment shade is part of that wider design discussion.

At SMP BY G in Clyde North, Melbourne, we use Bishop-brand pigments. Our SMP artist refers to the Bishop pigment colour chart and adapts shade selection to your skin type and existing hair colour, following normal SMP industry practices.

Start with your existing hair and preferred style

During your free consultation, explain how you usually wear your hair and how you would like it to look after treatment. Bring photographs showing your current hair and a few examples of the style you prefer. These help make the conversation specific to you.

For a shaved look, discuss the proposed hairline shape and how it relates to the surrounding hair. For a density treatment, discuss the thinning areas, the amount of existing hair and the appearance you want to achieve. SMP creates a visual effect; it does not regrow hair.

What the Bishop colour chart contributes

The chart provides a reference for pigment selection. It is used alongside the assessment of your scalp, existing hair and treatment goal. We do not select a shade simply because it appeared in someone else’s before-and-after photograph.

A brand name or colour-chart reference is not a guarantee of an exact match. Ask our SMP artist to explain the proposed shade and how the design relates to your own hair. Individual results vary, so realistic expectations should be agreed before treatment.

Use gallery examples as a conversation starter

Our gallery can help you explain whether you prefer a softer hairline, a more defined shaved style or the appearance of greater density. Choose examples that illustrate your goal and ask which aspects may be relevant to your circumstances.

Photographs are examples of appearance, rather than a promise that every person will achieve the same result. Your consultation is the place to discuss the differences between your hair and the examples you have chosen.

Questions to ask before booking

Ask what shade is proposed, how your existing hair influences the choice, which areas will be treated and how the session plan will be reviewed. Also confirm the price per session, the proposed number of appointments and the written aftercare guidance.
